Analyst firm IDC predicts there will be 850 million remote workers worldwide by 2009. These workers spend a great deal of time traveling between destinations and require instant access to information during long drives or while stuck in traffic jams.
To remain productive while on the road, drivers use multiple information devices such as cellular phones, GPS devices, and PDAs. Despite the wide adoption of mobile communication devices, the standard user interface continues to rely heavily on visual formats and small keyboards and keypads. As a result of large volumes of information being delivered visually, drivers are distracted while driving and interacting with their mobile devices (phones, PDAs, and personal navigation devices).
